Prof. Nigatu Regassa Geda Profile

Nigatu Regassa Geda is a Professor of Demography (Population Studies), in the College of Development Studies, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He has more than 25 years of teaching and research engagements in the broad areas of humanities and social sciences. He has long years of experience in the design and conduct of large scale socio-economic and demographic surveys such as baseline studies, evaluation studies, and formative research mainly in the areas of population, reproductive health, gender and development, migration, family demography, food and nutrition security and youth development. Nigatu has been involved in several consultancy works commissioned by governmental, non-governmental and international organizations. His most recent research and consultancy experiences include; worked as consultant at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) on mainstreaming gender and nutrition for several African bilateral and multilateral projects (2017); led a project on right based approach of mainstreaming child-women-youth issues in Southern Ethiopia (Funded by UNICEF); Worked in a Canadian-IDRC funded project on strengthening nutrition sensitive agriculture through gender based approaches (2012-2018), tasked with mainstreaming gender and maternal-child nutrition elements into the project activities, school feeding programs, and capacity building of local people. With a background in Demography and Epidemiology, Nigatu has strong data analysis skills and knowledge of various statistical packages for data management (SPSS, SAS, STATA,R)) as well as Demographic software (e.g. MORTPAK 4.0, SPECTRUM, DEMPROJ). He published more than 50 research articles in reputable international journals.
