The goal of this consulting assignment is to develop five Humanitarian Emergency Need Assessment Guidelines that are simple and user friendly to follow in order to conduct a humanitarian need assessment and identify the affected population’s humanitarian needs quickly and effectively in accordance with international and national standards. According to the ToR , the assignment will take place in three regional states—Amhara, Oromia, and Afar—where five Local Humanitarian Partners (LHP) have operational presence.

Redressing Regional Disparities in Fertility Levels in Ethiopia:
Priority Intervention Areas (UNFPA)
The main goal of the assignment is to produce policy brief with a view to generating evidence-based information for advocacy and policy dialogue highlighting on the policy measures to be put in place in the framework of creating an enabling and stimulating environment towards a demographic transition in the country. The assignment constituted four interdependent sets of tasks, namely (1) Intensive secondary data/ desk review of relevant documents, (2) Scenario analysis on regional disparities in key fertility indictors 3) Policy measures and interventions, and 4) Debriefings and disseminations.

Desk review on Child Marriage Legislation, Policies, Systems and Programs in Africa.
The overall aim of the assignment was to review the existing literature, programmatic approaches, and reports on implementation and monitoring of child marriage programs in eight African countries. It was followed by development of a guideline for monitoring and evaluating child marriage in the region.

Monitoring and evaluation of 1500 nutrition sensitive projects funded by African Development Bank (ADB) for the period
The main purpose of this assignment was to a)establish and ensure access to consolidated database for projects in East and Southern African region for reference purpose, b)track progress in mainstreaming nutrition over time, and monitor the extent to which nutrition sensitive projects at design level are pursued and implemented, and c) pool relevant information for benchmarking exercise and guide decision-making during implementation, and evaluation processes.

Mainstreaming nutrition issues in IFAD funded projects in African, IFAD.
This project involved an intensive desk review followed by data base development for all nutrition sensitive projects in Africa which are commissioned by IFAD ( a UN agency located in Rome). Data mining, data collection from project documents, desk review and analysis, populating data on computer programs, analysis and report writing.

Review the national strategies and action plans on gender and nutrition-sensitive agriculture in Egypt, PRIDE project, IFAD.
The goals of the assignment were a) review the national nutrition strategies and action plans on nutrition-sensitive agriculture in Egypt to ensure alignment of the project with national priorities; b) Assess the nutrition situation, food security, food consumption practices and potential underlying factors of malnutrition particularly in Matrouh and in the new land areas (El Moghra); c) map the on-going nutrition activities (both nutrition specific and sensitive) in the proposed project locations and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Mainstreaming IFAD funded nutrition sensitive projects in three African Countries;
kenya, Zambia and Mozambique
The purpose of this study is to map nutrition-sensitive interventions in IFAD-funded projects in the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) region, and to provide guidance for effective nutrition mainstreaming operations. The specific objectives are to: (1) map the various interventions used in delivering nutrition sensitive activities; (2) identify pathways for nutrition outcomes; (3) evaluate the scale and scope of intervention implementation; (4) assess the effect of the project on beneficiaries; (5) identify and map areas of opportunities for scaling up; and (6) identify challenges, weaknesses and gap. Planning, development of the design, tools development, intensive desk review of IFAD funded projects on nutrition, data collection and analysis, report writing and dissemination.

Evaluation of the 2007 Population and Housing Census of Ethiopia with emphasis to the Amhara Region (funded by United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA).
The purpose of this assessment is to identify possible reasons for the variation observed between the 2007 Census and the results of the projection made for same year based on the 1994 Population and Housing Census for the Amhara Region. The assignment involved data mining on the two censuses (1994 and 2007) for Amhara and two other regions (for comparison). Estimation of several demographic parameters including fertility, mortality, FP, child survival, migration…etc; report compilation and presentation. The project report was presented to the Ethiopian parliament members.

Impacts of Agrochemicals on Environment and Food Security in the Rift valley (funded by DCG-Norway).
The overall objective of the study is to assess the impacts of the use of improved seeds, mineral fertilizers and pesticides on food security, human and animal health and environment in the Rift Valley of Ethiopia. The tasks included Design, data collection, data analysis, report writing and presentation of
the findings to high level audiences.

Responses of Rural Households to population pressure in food insecure areas of Sidama zone: Investigating implications on the environment (funded by the Center for Environment and Society, CES, (USA).
This study is an empirical study aimed at estimating the level and identifying the basic demographic, economic and social determinants of household food security and the corresponding responses among food insecure communities. The data were collected from 614 households (where both husband and wife were interviewed). A final report was submitted to the client following a dissemination workshop.

Implementation of Universal Access Plan (UAP) in SNNPR: A Case Study (Sponsored by the Netherlands, RIPPLE-Ethiopia).
The main objectives of the study was to assess the WASH (especially water access) I SNNP region based on intensive desk review. The desk review used a wide range of indicators recommended by the client to locate and summarize the experiences of SNNPR. The assignment involved Planning and design, coordinating team activities , thematic area identification for the review, conduct desk reviews based on
national and regional data, report writing and presentations of findings.

Household food insecurity in the dryland areas of Southern Ethiopia, (funded by DCG-Norway).
The main objective of the study is to assess, the levels, determinants, and coping strategies to food insecurity among rural households in selected areas of SNNPR. The activities included designing, proposal development, planning, sampling, data collection, data analysis , report writing and dissemination.

Population and Family Life Education booklets development (Bureau of Education, SNNPR, Ethiopia).
This project was a consultancy project on developing eight series of population education booklet for elementary schools in the region. The booklets were published in thousands of copies and distributed to each school. The activities included Designing the booklet, material preparation, translation, content editing, presentation and dissemination.

Baseline survey on Kokeb Kebele Program (WASH program impact evaluation) in Southern Ethiopia (USAID funded)
This project was a short-lived research and consultancy work commissioned by USAID. The major objective of the study was to evaluate the performance of 30 kebeles in SNNP which are called ‘ Kokeb Kebeles’ or ‘ best kebeles’ for the WASH activities.
The study was conducted after years of implementing the WASH activities in this kebeles. The activities included technical report writing, designing, and planning. It involved
development of data collection tools, development of sampling design, data collection and supervision, data management and quality assurance, data processing, report writing and dissemination.

Impacts of women development and change packages on the socio-economic and political status of women in SNNPRG: Promise, Success and Challenges (Children, youth and women affairs of Southern regional state of Ethiopia in collaboration with UNICEF :2010-2011)
The general objective of this assignment was to investigate the implementation of women development and change packages adopted by the SNNPRG and the socio-economic and political status of women as beneficiaries. The tasks included designing the study, data collection from 11 zones, report writing and dissemination.
